Falling

I take a step forward and feel nothing under my feet. Spreading my wings, like a bat in the night, I feel the cool upward draft. My wet clothes cling to my body, they don’t want to let me go. I open my eyes. It’s still dark, of course. It’s only the moon shining above through the clouds. Such a calming view. My lips curl as a smile forms across my face.

The raindrops falling beside me are so beautiful in this night. Transparent, round and lovely. Some of them are sparkling in the moonlight. They make me forget that I jumped. It feels like flying, but I am falling nonetheless. As I fall faster, they hit me in my face. My face has never been cleaner. The raindrops mix well with my tears.

I watch as one of my tears becomes a raindrop. No distinguishable characteristic, unless someone tastes it. Makes me chuckle. Someone swimming in the unusually calm river below, with their mouth open, tasting the rain. Everything tonight seems to have a theme. I fall even faster, as I search for an open mouth below, only to find my own reflection. What an ugly face.
